The course’s aim was to conduct a versatile research booklet that might result in a design work about a specific Han (Inn) in Izmir/Kemeraltı area and we chose Abacıoğlu Han.
We spent a lot of time in Abacıoğlu Han observing the people, architecture, graphic elements, and food. We conducted interviews and surveys in the Han with people and we research the history of Han in the library. As a result, we prepared a research booklet.
The research booklet consists of historical research, interviews, patterns, textures, and typography analysis, surveys, graphs, word diagrams, How Might We questions, and Blueprint. In addition, the booklet comes with a Cultural Probes box which contains collected photographs, props, cultural items, natural items, and a sound CD.
